Standing tall as Iceland’s highest building, the Smáratorg Tower is a defining feature of the skyline in Kópavogur, near Reykjavík. This architectural icon is now set to dazzle even further, as Vivalyte has been chosen to provide the lighting solutions that will transform its façade into a striking, yet tasteful visual masterpiece.
This ambitious project brings together some of Iceland’s most prominent players in architecture and design. The tower, managed by Eik fasteignafélag, reflects the company’s commitment to creating high-quality, professional spaces with a focus on modern aesthetics and functionality. To bring the vision for the Smáratorg Tower to life, Vivalyte teamed up with the award-winning lighting designers at Liska and the skilled integrators at Exton.
Vivalyte is excited to contribute to shaping Iceland’s nightscape with a solution that respects the elegance of the Smáratorg Tower while making it a beacon in the city.
Iceland’s unique climate—marked by extreme winds, rain, and fluctuating temperatures—requires lighting solutions that are not only visually impactful but also durable and weather-resistant. Vivalyte’s LED solutions underwent rigorous testing to ensure they could withstand these challenges while delivering outstanding performance.
1,500 meters of linear lighting are being installed to create a vibrant yet subtle interplay of light and architecture. These lines of light accentuate the tower’s height and geometry, enhancing its presence on the skyline while maintaining a clean, professional appearance.
The lighting design by Liska focuses on creating a dynamic, yet elegant expression for the tower’s façade. Known for their innovative and award-winning designs, Liska’s vision was to strike a balance between boldness and subtlety.
This vision is complemented by Vivalyte’s advanced linear lighting technology, carefully calibrated to match the building’s aesthetics and functionality. Particular attention was given to ensuring a seamless integration of light and structure, with fixtures designed to perform flawlessly in Iceland’s extreme weather.
Icelandic audiovisual integrator Exton is in charge of the technical adaptation of the creative idea. With their deep knowledge of audio-visual and lighting systems, Exton ensures that the lighting not only meets the technical requirements but also aligns with the artistic vision of the project.
Once completed, the illuminated Smáratorg Tower will stand as a symbol of modern Icelandic design, blending innovation and functionality. Its façade lighting will transform the building into a nighttime landmark, visible across the Reykjavík area.
Vivalyte is proud to play a key role in this project, working with exceptional partners like Eik, Liska, and Exton to bring this vision to life. Together, we’re shaping the future of architectural lighting in Iceland.
